Ascension Develops World's Smallest Six Degrees-of-Freedom Sensor For Emerging Medical Procedures

Ascension Technology Corporation has shrunk the dimensions of its 3D Guidance medSAFE magnetic detector without sacrificing tracking parameters. The outer diameter of its new sensor is 0.90 mm (0.035 inch), small sufficiency to comfortably fit the hollow pipe of a 19-gauge biopsy needle.

The new detector passively senses pulsed DC magnetic william Claude Dukenfield generated by either a cubic sender or
a flat vector and is available for easy integration and manufacturability by medical OEMs. Its first
manipulation is fast, accurate, and unobtrusive tracking of the distal tip of a needle deployed for piano tissue
treatment.

The execution of the new detector is unmoved by occlusions, composite materials, or the presence
of common hospital metals, such as stainless steel (three hundred series), ti, and atomic number 13. When secondhand
with Ascension's flat transmitter, it overcomes the distorting effects of underlying ferric steel
structures, contained in procedural tables and gurneys.

Before the introduction of Ascension's detector, the miniaturization of magnetic sensors typically resulted
in the loss of tracking of an instrument's pluck angle. The new sensing element cures that limitation piece allowing
navigation and

Vessels, White Fields and Open Devices Album Review

Album review of 'White Fields and Open Devices' by Vessels.

To say that 'White Fields and Open Devices' is an eagerly anticipated release is something of an understatement. If the Leeds Society for Experimental and Progressive Rock Music produced a calendar, in which every month revealed the pale haggard nude frame of one of the city's esteemed post-rock captains preserving his dignity with a Crimson Tide or early Genesis LP, if such a society existed, and if they made such a calendar, the release date for this album, whatsoever it is, would be marked upon it in nothing less than bold italics.

That is to say, the weight unit of expectation was on Vessels to make a record which did themselves justice. For a duo of age now they have been one of the most exciting live bands in the land, bewildering and endearing audiences with their sheer scale. The good of Vessels is big, in every sense. From the wall of delayed, distorted guitar sound and precision bivalent drumming down to intricate glitch patterns and pianoforte arpeggios; they do it all with virtuosic competency. If you'll excuse the clich a Vessels usher is a journey, the audient is engaged with the stripe the whole way, spell-bound by all the ideas and emotions that cycle in and out of the euphony. It's important to note of hand that the multi-instrumentalism and skill serves the euphony, not the other way round.
'White Fields and Open Devices' was recorded in Minnesota with John Congleton, a quasi-celebrity in the relatively anonymous world of post-rock. For the purposes of this followup, its pertinent to note that he has in the yesteryear produced records for Texan widescreen

Britney Spears & Mel Gibson - The Mystery Continues

Britney Spears and Mel Gibson met up for a post-holiday chat on Tuesday night at an exclusive Beverly Hills cigar lounge, leaving many wondering what exactly they have in common.

The odd couple spent almost three hours talking at what appeared to be a business meeting at a members-only bar, called the Havana Club.

In a bid to avoid a paparazzi frenzy, both stars arrived separately as patrons were watching the Los Angeles Lakers/Boston Celtics basketball final on a big screen.

The bar has long been a favourite for smoking stars - Ben Affleck, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger have all been known to frequent the Havana.

When Spears left with a business associate and her bodyguard, Gibson stayed at the bar for a further hour, leaving at about 11pm, according to People.
Maybe they were discussing Britney's long-lasting Costa-Rican tan.

Screen Actors Guild opposes smaller union's studio deal

LOS ANGELES — The president of the Screen Actors Guild has encouraged a vote against a proposed contract deal between a smaller union and Hollywood studios.

The move came as SAG tries to reach its own deal with producers.

The guild previously asked the American Federation of Television and Radio Performers to delay a membership vote on its proposed agreement with studios, but AFTRA has refused.

SAG President Alan Rosenberg said at a union rally Monday it's essential to vote down the AFTRA deal. SAG says that would help it negotiate a better agreement.

Prince Harry - Prince Harry Minders Investigated For High-speed Chase

British royal PRINCE HARRY and his police minders are under investigation by U.K. authorities, after allegedly taking part in a high-speed chase to get to London's Boujis nightclub.

According to reports, the young prince was driving his black Audi R8 along the M4 motorway in Berkshire, England, followed by a team of protection officers in unmarked police cars.

However, 33-year-old Tim Williams found himself caught up in the 100 mile (106.9 kilometer)-per-hour chase when one of the security vehicles drove up behind him, forcing him to accelerate and change lanes just to make way for Prince Harry as he passed by in his sports car.

Williams has made an official complaint to local authorities, and bosses at Thames Valley Police station have confirmed they are looking into the incident.

Summer boxoffice ahead of 2007

Domestic grosses up for three consecutive weekends

Against considerable odds, the summer boxoffice suddenly is sizzling.

Three consecutive weekends of big year-over-year upticks in domestic grosses has the seasonal boxoffice pacing ahead of summer 2007 for the first time. This season is just 2% ahead so far, but weekend comparisons with year-ago grosses look manageable over the next three frames.

Many had expected the sequels-challenged summer to lag the record '07 summer boxoffice substantially, and that certainly was the case throughout May. Here's what's gone right since then:

-- "Iron Man" has shown legs of steel.

-- Boxoffice underachievers have been few.

-- "Kung Fu Panda," "Sex and the City" and "The Incredible Hulk" opened better than expected.

"Iron Man" this week is likely to become the year's first $300 million grosser, a feat few would have predicted for the Robert Downey Jr. starrer before its release. Paramount's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" also appears on track reach that magical benchmark, and executives are feeling good about the clear public appetite for entertaining film fare.

"There have been seven straight weekends in which a movie has done $50 million or more over that one weekend," Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore said. "That goes to show that if the movies are compelling, a big audience will show up."

On the other hand, Disney's "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," once considered likely to gross at least $300 million domestically, is now unlikely to ring up even half that amount. And more predictably, Warner Bros. "Speed Racer" turned out to be every bit the Edsel industryites feared before the boxoffice season began.

But though Warners' "Sex and the City" also drew considerable prerelease skepticism, the now-$120 million grosser has left doubters looking silly.

"After we saw the movie, we realized how exceptional it was, (but) even we never anticipated the frenzy that it created," Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman said.

Arguably, there's at least one more reason behind the summer's surprising boxoffice strength: Marvel Entertainment got into the movie-production business. Fledgling Marvel Studios produced both "Iron Man" and the "Hulk" remake.

"We decided 41⁄2 years ago to start our own studio, and it just took some time to get that accomplished," Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel said. "But if it wasn't for that, those two movies might not have existed."

The recently buoyant domestic boxoffice is particularly welcome considering that foreign coin also was light during May. Foreign grosses also have been surprisingly strong in June, but the European boxoffice will continue to face stiff competition from Euro 2008 soccer telecasts throughout the month.

Meanwhile, the next three weekends will feature comparisons with year-ago frames whose industry tallies appear beatable, at least domestically. So the summer '08 turnaround could continue through month's end.

This weekend will see Warners and Paramount face off in a comedy smackdown as the former's "Get Smart" bows against the latter's "The Love Guru." The rival comedies might bruise each other at the boxoffice, but their combined hauls should boost industry grosses nicely as the session seeks to outperform a $132 million year-ago frame topped by a lightweight $31 million bow for "Evan Almighty."

The next weekend's year-ago competition is tougher": a $155 million session topped by the lucrative tag team of "Ratatouille" and "Live Free or Die Hard." But June 27 openers include Disney/Pixar's animated feature "Wall-E" and Universal's "Wanted," an Angelina Jolie-James McAvoy action film whose prerelease buzz carries signs of a potential overachiever.

"If you're lucky, a couple times a year you have a movie where everything you show gets people more and more excited," said Adam Fogelson, Universal's worldwide marketing and distribution president. "This is one of those films."

Three weekends down the road, the Independence Day frame stacks up against a $174 million session last year that was topped by the $71 million bow of "Transformers." But the '08 frame will boast a not-so-secret weapon named Will Smith, whose superhero turn in "Hancock" will surely lead the weekend boxoffice.

"It's never a bad thing to have the biggest movie star in the world starring in your movie," Sony distribution president Rory Bruer said.

Further into July and throughout August, year-over-year comparisons will remain challenging. Yet for all the early hand-wringing over a season featuring far fewer sequels than last summer, Hollywood suddenly is seeing the boxoffice glass half full.

"It's staggering," Fox distribution president Bruce Snyder said. "I didn't think it was going to be like this."

The improved seasonal forecast also is helping year-to-date tallies. This year still trails the same portion of '07 by 1% at $3.96 billion.

Chris Brown Lavish Gift to Rihanna

Rihanna has apparently received a lavish ruby and diamond necklace as a gift from Chris 'he's not my boyfriend' Brown.

Brown reportedly splurged a whopping $100,000 on Rihanna at Beverly Hills jeweler Jason's.

"Chris went for the heart theme," said jewellery designer Jason Arasheben. "He said: 'She's going to love this because she loves hearts'."

Rihanna was said to love the gift so much that she's ordered a diamond-encrusted cross for Chris in return.

Rihanna and Chris have consistently denied they are dating, despite being photographed getting cosy in a pool on holiday earlier this year. Rihanna said: "We are best friends... like brother and sister. I won't say that we're just friends - me and Chris are really best, best friends."

Even Chris denies it. "People keep asking me, 'What's the deal?', I'm like, 'There's no deal...' We're just friends."

Van Halen reunion grosses more than $93 million

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Despite a wobbly start and fears of
imminent implosion, Van Halen said on Thursday its first tour
with singer David Lee Roth in two decades grossed more than $93
million, a record for the rock band.

Van Halen played to nearly one million people during 74
arena shows throughout the United States and Canada, beginning
September 27 in Charlotte, N.C. and wrapping Tuesday in Grand
Rapids, Mich.

"We send our thanks to the countless new and longtime fans
that helped make this tour our most successful," Van Halen said
in a statement.

Roth, who left the band in 1985, rejoined guitarist Eddie
Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen. But it was not a reunion
of the classic lineup, as the brothers replaced bass player
Michael Anthony with Eddie's son Wolfgang, now 17.

The reunion was initially envisaged as a summer
amphitheater tour, but the trek was put off when Eddie Van
Halen entered rehab. Given the historic bad blood between Roth
and the Van Halen brothers, and concerns about Eddie's health,
there was plenty of skepticism about the tour's prospects.

But Eddie Van Halen, displaying a buff physique, appeared
to have lost of his prowess, while Roth was in fine voice. The
reviews were positive.

During a news conference last August, Roth said he expected
the band to embark on a new life as a recording and touring
entity. The band's immediate plans are uncertain, but the
statement said "exciting developments" were on the way.
